Dara 脫 Briain "zero problem" on women comedy show panels
In a Radio Times interview Dara 脫 Briain was quoted saying that the 大象传媒's new ban on all-male panels on comedy shows will make female comics look like "the token woman".
In this interview the comic said his only objection to the ban was to announcing it:
"I have zero problem with there being more women on the show and have argued for it, I just don鈥檛 think you announce it as if that鈥檚 the only reason they are on the show.鈥
Dara 脫 Briain clarified the comments reported in the Radio Times: 鈥淛ust to clarify I have nothing against this idea that there be women on panel shows or indeed that quietly you ask panel shows to make sure there are women on panel shows, I鈥檝e been making that argument myself for a while.
鈥淢y only objection was to announcing it, and that鈥檚 as a performer, because it means people we would book anyway, women like Holly Walsh, Katherine Ryan, very talented funny women, are suddenly seen that they are there because of an edict.鈥
