Spiral Staircase

If you live anywhere near Belgrave Circle, your probably getting used to the sight of workmen, with the Flyover well on its way down and the clearance of the former Sainsbury's taking place just over the road. But amongst all that, a forgotten gem has emerged. In the back of the old supermarket is a cast iron spiral staircase that has stood there for over 130 years, since the days of Leicester Central Railway station, which used to stand on the site. But with the shop staff moving out, it needs a new home.

You might remember this first came to my attention on the Open Lines, when Margaret in Belgrave rang Jim Davis to find out if the staircase had a future. Well also listening that day was Councillor Adam Clarke, who met 大象传媒 Radio Leicester's Matt Smith at the former Sainsbury's site.
