Dylan in London and New York
Richard Burton, interviewed at the time of filming ‘Under Milk Wood’ in 1971, attempts to describe Dylan Thomas the man. He recalls a time when Dylan had stayed with him in London – Burton says that first thing in the morning the poet was quiet and shy, by six he was dancing naked in the streets and by 10 he was being carried home from the pub. In later years, he remembers watching him prepare for a poetry reading in New York, as Dylan fought to overcome his nervousness and then was absolutely brilliant – ‘he could have been a fantastic actor’. From an interview with Ronnie Williams for Late Call.
