Agoraphobia sufferer beats fear after 48 years
77-year-old Pat Cooper has barely left her home since 1966, because of her crippling fear of being outdoors which she described as 鈥渁 horrible feeling, as if you were going to die".
After missing out on holidays, family weddings, and days out in the park with her children and grandchildren, Mrs Cooper overcame her fear last week in order to see her grandson collect a British Empire Medal, because 鈥渋t was a very special occasion鈥 and she "thought it would be nice for him to see me鈥.
Mrs Cooper who visited the venue in a car as "a trial run" beforehand said the treatments offered to her, including electro-shock therapy, were inappropriate.
