Mozart's Clarinet Quintet in A major (K. 581) was written during a busy and difficult time for the composer, for his friend and fellow freemason, the clarinettist Anton Stadler. Chris de Souza finds Mozart challenging tradition in the work, with music examples performed by Robert Plane (clarinet) and the Emperor Quartet.
