‘Break up’ of Beijing proposed
Could Beijing be split up? A state-controlled newspaper proposed moving things like heavy industry to an 'auxiliary centre' outside the Chinese capital and nearly 60 per cent of readers said they were in favour. The move could see the easing of congestion and pollution. Leo Hollis, the author of Cities Are Good For You, thinks ‘auxiliary cities’ are a growing trend.
