Stuart Semple - introduction
Stuart Semple is a painter and is interviewed in his studio talking about how music has been a strong presence throughout his life. The first artwork he saw when he was growing up was on album covers. When he is creating work for an exhibition he thinks of it like a musical album and each work is a track on the album as if a story. Images of his artwork show these influences and he explains that he includes collages and images that he has collected as if he is a DJ sampling music. He is shown painting as he listens to music and is absorbed and concentrates on the expressive brushstrokes that he applies to canvas. He says once you have found your own way of expressing yourself it is like finding your own language.
