Museums in a digital age
The digital age is changing the way museums and galleries reach their visitors. Events like Leonardo Live, Pompeii Live and Vikings Live are broadcast in cinemas around the country by institutions like the National Gallery and British Museum.
The Tate and other organisations have developed apps to guide visitors around their galleries, are making collections available to people around the world online, and are using digital technology to augment visitors’ experience of their collections.
Martha Kearney asks Graham Boxer, director of Imperial War Museum North,and Maria Balshaw, the director of Manchester City Galleries, about how museums have adapted for the digital age and are finding new ways to attract visitors through their doors.
