Treating: In April 1916 during World War One, a rather unusual crime took place at the George Hotel in Wombwell near Barnsley. The landlord and eleven other men were charged simply because a round of drinks had been bought. "Treating", or paying for someone else's drink was one of a number of aspects of ordinary life that were suddenly against the law.
