Stem Cells

Dr Chetna Kang and Toby Friedner focus on disability and mental health.

Stem cells could provide the basis for the biggest advancements in medicine for generations.

Researchers are trying to find ways to use them to cure or reverse, so far incurable conditions.

In this programme we'll find out about research at the University of Bedfordshire looking at ways to switch of cancer stem cells in prostate cancer patients. And about trials using stem cells to treat MS and Parkinson's Disease

We'll also hear about the ethical concerns raised by using embryonic stem cells and about so called stem cell tourists who travel to other countries, that have less regulation than the UK, to receive treatment.
