Nigeria: Is hashtag activism really helping?
The 鈥淏ring Back Our Girls鈥 Twitter hashtag has been hugely successful in engaging with the missing Nigerian schoolgirls campaign, with more than 40 per cent of geo-tagged tweets with the hashtag posted globally in recent weeks originating in the United States or Britain. But when lives are at stake, is hashtag activism really helping?
The U.S. is one of the Countries leading the search for the missing Nigerian schoolgirls. Many people there have been appalled at what happened, taking to social media to voice their condemnation, including the first lady, Michelle Obama. In this extract Kevin Philemon speaks to Funmi Jinadu who's a Nigerian student at UWE in Bristol and asked for her opinions of the social media campaign鈥
