Is there a lack of black involvement in local politics in Derby?
As the new Derby city councillors took their seats in the council chamber, some members of the black community are asking why there aren’t any African Caribbean representatives as part of the new councillor’s intake, and historically just three representatives over the last two decades.
Ahead a of a meeting in Derby on Wednesday 18 June at the West Indian Centre to discuss black involvement in local politics, Devon Daley spoke with a panel made up of Prof Cecile Wright and Patrick Satchwell, two local individuals hoping to become councillors. Also joining the discussion was Shaun Bailey sometime adviser to PM David Cameron and Winston Mckenzie, a UKIP spokesman. Patrick Satchwell begins this extract from the debate…
