Must children’s books end happily ever after? Not according to Kevin Brooks – he’s just won a prestigious children’s literature prize for his novel, the Bunker Diary, an account of a boy held hostage. He discusses his work with Lorna Bradbury, deputy literary editor for the UK newspaper the Telegraph, who has criticised the book.
