Attendance doubles when girls design their own PE class

A study released to the Victoria Derbyshire programme has shown the number of girls enjoying PE at school can double if you allow their peer group to design the lessons.

The twelve month study by the Youth Sport Trust involved 3000 pupils, particularly those who didn't like sport.

Girls seen as role models at the school were asked to design the classes. Attendance rose from 32% to over 70% with double the number of pupils claiming they now feel comfortable about their body image.

5 live's been to a secondary school in Stockport where head of PE, Tracy Sloane, explained how this year's sports day was combining athletics and Zumba.
