Pilot to receive RAF Wings after 70 year wait
A wartime pilot from Newcastle is finally going to receive his RAF Wings, after almost 70 years of waiting.
Wilson Taylor, who is about to turn 90, qualified as a pilot just as the war ended, so never received the honour.
However, he never lost hope, and on Thursday 21 August he will be presented with his Wings at a special ceremony.
Mr Taylor, who last flew a plane at 85, said, "It's still a bit of a dream for me. After 70 years hoping."
The RAF said they were breaking protocol to present Mr Taylor with his Wings, in recognition of his wartime service to King and Country.
