From Quincy Jones to Gerald Wilson
Cleo Laine sings a Bessie Smith song and we hear from Quincy Jones with a jazz big band full of some of the best musicians of the time. We also remember Gerald Wilson who has died
Elvin Jones with lyrical trumpet from Wynton Marsalis and Karrin Allyson from the Montreux Jazz Festival plus Lambert, Hendricks and Bavan from a Newport Jazz Festival of the early 1960's. There's Humphrey Lyttelton with 'his European Friends' in 1985 featuring Jean Francois Bonnell. David benoit plays a John Lewis tune and Oscar Peterson packs in plenty of notes for a 1968 recording with an invited audience. We remember Gerald Wilson who died this week and also Roy Crimmins who died at the end of August.
