Woolwich Tesco apartment block named worst new building
A Tesco supermarket topped with hundreds of apartments has been named Britain's worst new building.
Judges awarded the 2014 Carbuncle Cup to the Woolwich Central development because of its "oppressive" and "arrogant" appearance.
Building Design editor Thomas Lane, who was one of this year's judges, said the building was "much too large" for the site it was built on and "dominated" its neighbours.
Architect firm Sheppard Robson, who designed the building, said they had received very positive comments about the "cohesive piece of strong architecture".
