Campbell: Bosses should judge staff on talent, not mental health

Alastair Campbell says employers are causing themselves "damage" by "writing people off" with mental health problems.

The former Labour spin doctor said his previous boss at the Mirror and Prime Minister Tony Blair saw the "talent" he had to offer, rather than judging him for his medical history.

"Tony said if you're not bothered, I'm not bothered... and for me that was very important," Campbell said.

It comes after the Chief Medical Officer for England, Dame Sally Davies, said employers should do more to help staff with mental health problems so they could return to work sooner.
