China: Uighurs in Beijing
China’s largest region, Xinjiang, has seen increasing violence between Muslim Uighurs and the Han Chinese who have moved in, and who dominate the governing of the province. The cracks and the crackdown have led the normally sober Economist magazine to warn of Xinjiang turning into China's Chechnya. In a special series of reports, Tim Franks is in China and has been hearing from a Uighur man who has settled in Beijing.
