Restoring Rothko
As part of the 大象传媒鈥檚 ongoing partnership with Tate, and coinciding with 大象传媒 Four Goes Abstract, 大象传媒 Arts Online presents Restoring Rothko, a film made by Tate chronicling the restoration of Mark Rothko鈥檚 masterpiece which was vandalised with graffiti ink in 2012.
Rothko鈥檚 Black on Maroon (1958) went back on public view at Tate Modern in May 2014, following 18 months of intensive work by the conservation team and colleagues across Tate.
The film charts the team's progress over the months as they researched methods for removing the ink from the delicate paint layers, using special test canvases to assess the appropriate solvents and cleaning methods, before restoring the painting's surface.
