The relative of a patient who died in a hospice has urged other people to consider it as an option for end of life care.

Katy Brinicombe's father-in-law died aged 54 of lung cancer in July 2013, and in the weeks before his death spent time both at home and in a hospice.

Despite his wishes to stay at home, she said caring for him changed their family dynamic "shockingly" and the "exceptional" hospice care was better for everyone.

It comes after charity Help the Hospices found half of hospices had their NHS funding either cut or frozen in the last year.
