Brazil Heads to the Polls
Brazil's election: What do voters, workers, economists and businesspeople make of the race between incumbent Dilma Rousseff and Socialist challenger Marina Silva?
Brazil prepares to head to the polls over the weekend and vote in a new president – will it be a second term for Dilma Rousseff, or could the new Socialist Party candidate Marina Silva, the daughter of poor rubber tappers from the country’s north-east, pip her to the post to lead the world’s seventh largest economy, a country of 200 million people?
Katy Watson speaks to families, workers, economists and businesspeople. Stefan Keese, an automotive expert at Roland Berger, explains why the car industry matters to many. Marcelo Moura, economics professor at higher education institute INSPER, tells her of the changing views of voters. Katy also hears from entrepreneur Mario Chady, who started his pasta business Spoleto 15 years ago – catering to the new middle classes – about challenges and hopes for the future.
