Christopher Biggins discusses Tony Blair being named 'a gay icon'
The former Prime Minister Tony Blair has been named a leading gay icon by Gay Times magazine to mark its 30th anniversary.
His time as PM saw the lowering of the gay age of consent, bringing it into line with that for straight couples, as well as the introduction of civil partnerships. Other people on the gay icon list include DJ Boy George, actor Sir Ian McKellen and singer Barbra Streisand.
So should the former Labour leader be on the list? Tony Blair himself said that he was "proud" of his achievements and to be on the list.
Stephen Nolan spoke to Christopher Biggins - for many people a gay icon - who said that, in his view, a gay icon should really be a woman, or a singer, and that Tony Blair isn't "camp enough".
