Old phone boxes become solar-powered charging points

Disused phone boxes in London have been converted into solar-powered phone chargers, after two graduates started a free service for people who are low on battery.

One of the London School of Economics students, Harold Craston, said the service "accomodates for all smart phones" and that they would like to expand the business.

He said that the idea came from walking past a disused phone box in university every day which needed to be "put to use" and that losing phone battery is a problem that "everyone faces".

The first of six boxes was unveiled on Tottenham Court Road this week, and all of the solar-powered charging stations will be painted green.
