Our correspondent makes wine – and meets his neighbours – in a gritty London neighbourhood.
It is remarkable fact of modern life in London – and indeed in many other cities – that it is quite possible to live next door to someone for years and yet not know their name. British people often keep to themselves – it’s an aspect of the culture of which journalist Leo Johnson does not entirely approve. While recovering from an exercise-induced injury, he recovered by hobbling around the local park. And it was there that a chance encounter with an elderly Italian gentleman inspired him start a project that would bring him and his neighbours closer together.
