Army mums reflect on Afghan war
British and American forces have handed control of Camp Bastion in Helmand province over to the Afghan army.
As the British mission draws to a close, we take a look at the impact on the families of those who served in Afghanistan.
大象传媒 5 live鈥檚 Chris Warburton spoke to two army mums, Jane Whitehouse and Paula Raybould at the National Memorial Arboretum, the UK鈥檚 Centre of Remembrance.
Jane and Paula work at the same place, they鈥檝e been friends for years, but have had very different experiences of their sons fighting in Afghanistan.
Paula鈥檚 son Sean, who she calls Sam throughout the interview, served one tour there and is now stationed in Catterick. Jane鈥檚 son, Corporal Jonathan Horne, was among five British soldiers ambushed and killed while trying to help a colleague injured in a bomb blast.
