How Fort Hood is trying to prevent another tragedy
5 live's Rhod Sharp has been visiting Ford Hood, one of the largest US bases in the world, which has experienced several tragedies in recent years.
In April 2014, a married Iraq war veteran with four children, specialist Ivan Lopez, opened fire inside an administrative building at Fort Hood after being refused leave to attend to family matters. Four people including Lopez were killed and 16 injured.
In November 2009, an army major named Nidal Hasan opened fire in a mess hall. He was court-martialled, and is now on military death row.
5 live's Rhod Sharp has been speaking to Colonel Christopher Garver, a public affairs officer at Ford Hood, about his memories of the shooting in 2009.
