Champions League glory for Western Sydney Wanderers and Entente Setif
Western Sydney Wanderers and Entente Setif are champions of Asia and Africa respectively.
Western Sydney Wanderers of Australia were crowned champions of the Asian Champions League on Saturday.
Sydney drew 0-0 in the second leg of their final away to Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia. It gave them a 1-0 aggregate victory.
They became the first Australian side ever to win the competition and Sebastian Hassett from the Sydney morning herald newspaper tells Sportsworld what the victory meant not just for the team but also for Australian football.
Also, what a year for Algerian football. After the national team enthralled crowds at the World Cup by reaching the last sixteen with an exciting, attacking style of football, an Algerian club has now won the African Champions League.
Entente Setif beat AS Vita Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo on away goals, after the final finished 3-3 on aggregate.
Last night's second leg in Algeria ended 1-1 with Setif taking the trophy courtesy of their 2-2 draw in Kinshasa last week.
So, what's been the secret behind Setif's success? A question for the North African football expert Maher Mezahi.
