Ban buying sex? Ex-prostitute says yes, sex worker says no

A group of MPs are calling for laws which would make paying for sex illegal.

They hope that criminalising the clients, rather than the people working in the sex industry, would reduce the demand for prostitutes, and help cut down on trafficking.

"Sue", a member of the English Collective of Prostitutes - a group which lobby's on behalf of sex-workers, said the proposals would drive women into "poverty".

Former prostitute Mia, who campaigned to have the law brought to Northern Ireland, said it would stop people being bought and sold as "items".
