Haileybury College, Hertford: Memorial to Public School Students
Almost a quarter of the young men from Haileybury College who fought in World War One died in the conflict.
They entered the armed forces as officer class and will have led the charge as they went over the top.
All 589 names are written on the school鈥檚 war memorial.
Haileybury keeps an extensive archive of the involvement of its pupils and now has a replica trench, similar to the one that was dug by students on the rugby pitch during the Great War. More than one thousand letters have been added to its collection following a donation by the Thorne family, which lost two of its sons in the conflict.
