What makes a successful entrepreneur? New research from Andrew Freeman, director of the UK's Finance Foundation, suggests that most governments are a little unclear, causing billions of dollars to be wasted on backing dead-end small businesses. One country that is often thought to be good at picking winners is Israel. It has the world's highest per capita investment in homegrown research and development. It also has one of the most successful cutting-edge tech sectors. We examine how they do it, with the government's chief scientist and Jon Medved, CEO of OurCrowd, the world's biggest equity crowdfunding platform. And, our regular commentator Steve Fritzinger also weighs in, with a meditation on cup-cakes, and the advantages of cross-cultural research, when it coms to devising a new business idea.
