Comet landing could help 'save humanity'

An historic mission to land a space probe on a comet has begun this morning 鈥 more than 300 million miles from Earth.

The probe and its mothership, Rosetta, have been travelling to the comet for more than a decade. They have travelled a four billion mile series of loops around the Sun to pick up enough speed to fly alongside the comet, which is travelling through space at about 34,000 mph.

Space scientist Natalie Starkey is involved in the Rosetta comet landing and explains how it could help us 鈥渟ave humanity鈥.
