There now are more than 100 thousand people living with HIV in the UK. The number of new cases being diagnosed is falling, but has hit a record high among gay men. Dr Steve Taylor, lead consultant in HIV at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and founder of the charity Saving Lives has told us the message about the risks of HIV isn’t getting through.

Jonathan Blake was one of the first men in the UK to be diagnosed with HIV. His story was told this summer in the film Pride, where his character was played by Dominic West.

5 live went along with him to the Gay's The Word bookshop in Soho, which also features in the film, as he met 19-year-old Luke Alexander who was told last year that he had tested positive.
