David Lynch on Twin Peaks and Return of the Jedi - extended interview

In a specially extended version of an interview with 大象传媒 Entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson, recorded for 大象传媒 Radio 4's Today programme, film director David Lynch reflects on his career following the launch of Naming, his new art exhibition at MIMA in Middlesbrough.

Lynch describes his influences - including derelict factories, smoke, fire, oil and soot. He is best known for films like Blue Velvet and The Elephant Man but says alternative cinema has now reached a crisis point: "...arthouses have gone, it's a sad time for alternative cinema. The new arthouse is cable television".

Asked whether it was true he was invited to direct Return of the Jedi? "I was asked to do it but I told George he should do it." Any regrets?
"No." Now working on a new episode of his hit series Twin Peaks, Lynch revealed: "You'll see some results in a year and a half, I hope."
