Aya Medany: Keeping the Faith
By the age of 23, Egypt's Aya Medany had taken part in three Olympic Games and claimed silver at the 2008 Modern Pentathlon World Championships in Hungary. Having retired from the sport before the birth of her first child, she's now hoping to compete again at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. In the meantime, she's been mentoring young women and girls, who, like her, struggle to balance the needs of their sport and Muslim faith, and was recently honoured for this work by the International Olympic Committee.
