Anne Kirkbride 'oozed Coronation Street' says co-star
The actress Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre in Coronation Street has died at the age of 60. She appeared in the soap for 44 years.
In a statement, ITV said her husband David Beckett confirmed she passed away peacefully tonight in a Manchester hospital after a short illness. He and the programme's cast and crew were said to be "heartbroken and deeply saddened".
Her co-star Ian Puleston-Davies, who played Owen Armstrong, told Phil Williams she "oozed Coronation Street" and was "such a colourful character on and off screen", adding that "It's a sad day on the cobbles."
