Mandla Maseko
25-year-old Mandla Maseko was born and raised in the Mabopane and Soshanguve townships of Pretoria in South Africa. No-one in his family has ever travelled out of the country, but early next year, Mandla aims not just to leave South Africa, but to leave the planet! He wants to become the first black African in space and has won a place on the Lynx Suborbital Vehicle which, in 2016, will take 23 people on an hour long trip orbiting the earth. Matthew Bannister asked Mandla if he'd always been interested in space.
