Technology based on biology
New technologies in medical science have led designer Amy Congdon to develop products by controlling the growth of organisms such as bone tissue and bacteria. Congdon imagines this new material being used for items such as jewellery and clothing but later developed into a much wider range of products. The benefits are that the material is fully biodegradable. The future could see materials, not being made, but grown from cells. The clip includes the demonstration of a method suitable for students to grow their own material in the classroom.
