Sexual Harassment in Turkey

On Wednesday 11th February a 20 year old Turkish woman, Ozgecan Aslan, was brutally murdered by a man who was attempting to rape her. Women 鈥 and men 鈥 showed their outrage by pouring onto the streets of Turkey鈥檚 cities, dressed in black and protesting about the rise in violence against women in their country. Many aimed their anger and frustration at the Turkish Government.

The response on social media has been equally huge and just as angry, with over 6.5 million people tweeting about Ozgecan, and Turkish women sharing their stories online about their everyday experiences of sexual harassment. We speak to the 大象传媒鈥檚 Selin Girit about the swelling anger and a volunteer member of the ruling AKP party defends the government鈥檚 records on women鈥檚 rights.
