Clocks and calendars

Why do we need calendars and clocks? Sabrina is helped to work out the date and the time of her opening event by Tempo. She begins to see the importance of knowing the date and how a calendar can help, and children give examples of their important dates. We recognise the importance of telling the time accurately through Sabrina’s story of missing a costume party and begin to relate this to a clock face through showing a ‘giant park clock’.This episode focuses on how we need to tell the time in order to plan our lives, and we see a wide variety of types of clock all over the place. The park clock begins to look at the structure of an analogue clock and Sabrina makes a clock out of a bicycle wheel. This usefully provides a model of the clock face clearly showing the equal spacing of the numerals.
