East Renfrewshire: Young voter engagement
As part of our coverage of 100 seats in the 100 days to the election, pupils aged 16 and 17 from Mearns Castle High School near Glasgow speak of their experience of voting in the Scottish referendum, and their frustrations at being too young to vote in the upcoming general election.
One pupil was inspired after voting in the Scottish referendum:
"If we were allowed to vote in the general election, there would be something else to aim for and to carry on the inspiration,鈥 he said.
The Scottish referendum made another pupil much more politically involved:
鈥淣ow you're aware of it, it's hard to escape it, you realise it's everywhere. You feel engaged and it's your duty to know what you're talking about," he said.
