David Cameron has pledged 'paid volunteering leave' saying a Conservative government would offer up to 15 million workers three days' paid leave a year for volunteering.

Patrick McLoughlin, Conservative Transport Secretary said it is a "good thing to do" and said "it can be afforded and it will be afforded" and is "surprised" by objections.

The move, which will affect the public sector and large firms, comes alongside a separate Tory pledge guaranteeing that regulated rail fares will not go up by more than inflation until 2020.

Yvette Cooper agreed 鈥渋t鈥檚 a great thing for people to volunteer in their communities" but challenged it鈥檚 affordability and accused Mr McLoughlin of 鈥榳riggling and writhing鈥� when questioned

鈥淚f half the nurses in the NHS took this up, the NHS would need 2,000 more nurses to cover the rotas鈥�who is going to pay for them?鈥� said Labour's Shadow Home Secretary.
