West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine: Moving away from the referendum
James Naughtie visits West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine to find out about the fight going on between the traditional parties.
As part of the programme's series covering 100 seats in the 100 days to the election, James Naughtie visits West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine to find out about the fight going on between the traditional parties.
Conservative candidate Alexander Burnett is keen to avoid another independence referendum.
"Most liberals understand...where they need to vote to keep the union together," he said.
Liberal Democrat Robert Smith faces the same problems as other nationalist parties.
"The Yes campaign really has one party as its home whereas those that wanted to carry on with being part of the United Kingdom have three parties all with other issues on their agenda at the same time, " he said.
Barry Black, Labour's candidate, just 20 years old, says some are still stuck in the referendum.
"We're trying to make this election about getting rid of the coalition, getting rid of the Tories, but I think alot of people are sticking to last September," he said.
The SNP's Stuart Donaldson is considered a serious challenger to the other parties.
"People don't want to talk too much about independence, local issues to some extent, they just want to know how the SNP is going to be a strong voice for this area," he said.
