The Barmaid Who Bred a Winning Racehorse
Fifteen years ago, Jan Vokes was working in a bar in the Welsh village of Cefn Fforest and dreaming of breeding a racehorse. Horse racing is seen as a sport for millionaires, and Jan didn't have anything like that kind of money. So she roped in the whole community and asked everyone to give her a few pounds a week. She told Outlook's Viv Jones how she came up with the idea.
