The Old Town Hall, Belfast: Fortune Tellers in the Dock
Formerly the Belfast Summons Court, the Old Town Hall in Belfast saw an unusual case brought before it during the war years. A fortune teller was hauled before the judge accused of making money from soldiers’ relatives, desperate for news of what the future might hold for their loved ones. Although strange, it wasn’t unique. Similar cases were brought against other practitioners across the UK as the war accelerated public interest in the occult.
