Jean Denney was 15 and living in Dalton-In-Furness during World War Two. Her dad and brother were in the Navy and so 鈥渋t was such a relief鈥�.

Despite rationing she remembers that they were able to pull together a 鈥済ood spread鈥� for the celebrations which were held at the Lord Nelson pub in Dalton-In-Furness. There was plenty to drink.

The army band came down to play and she fondly remembers dancing with the soldiers: 鈥淚t was the first time I鈥檇 ever really danced with a man".
