Alan Forsyth鈥檚 Story
Alan Forsyth was coming to the end of his training with the Reconnaissance Corps at Bovington in Dorest. He didn鈥檛 hear the announcement 鈥 all he heard was cheering from across the parade ground.
He said, being young, he can remember foolishly thinking he would be missing out on something. Everyone went out into Bournemouth that evening 鈥 a lot of people had a lot to drink and went wild.
But they were all brought back to reality the following day when the Company Sergeant Major said: 鈥淩ight lads you think it鈥檚 over but for us, it isn鈥檛 - there鈥檚 still Japan and believe me that it鈥檚 going to be no more of a picnic than that last bit of fighting across the Rhine.鈥
