Pauline Green from Middlesbrough was 9 on VE Day, and remembers a party atmosphere in the Linthorpe area of the town.

"I can remember everyone dancing and singing 鈥� I ended up at the Milk Bar on Linthorpe Road. I was on the balcony playing records while people were dancing in the street 鈥� people just went mad!"

She recalls gathering around the radio listening to Winston Churchill tell the nation the Second World War was over: "I'll never forget that voice of his", she says.

Pauline's has a photo of her husband, John, at a street party 鈥� he was just 4-and-a-half years old.
