EU, Broadband and Active Bingo

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

David Cameron has been meeting the President of the European Commission Jean Claude Junker at the start of talks aimed at renegotiating Britain's membership of the European Union. It's part of a process that will ultimately lead to a referendum in two years time on whether Britain stays in or leaves. So what's the mood here in Leicester and Leicestershire? The roll out of super-fast broadband in Leicestershire has reached its half way stage. So far more than 37-thousand homes and businesses across the County have benefitted from fast-fibre, thanks to the Superfast Leicestershire Project. Its aim is to eventually make the high-speed technology available to more than 72-thousand premises in rural Leicestershire by the end of 2018. Two fat ladies 88! Now that may be something you expect to hear at bingo halls around Leicestershire, but one in the County is hoping to get those ladies to shed a bit of weight by playing the game with a difference. Active Bingo is exactly what it sounds like, but instead of just crossing off the numbers of their cards, over 55's must also carry out an excercise. Its an initiative by North West Leicestershire District Council to try and reduce hospital admissons and injuries by promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
