Student: Parasite 'was eating through the cornea of my eye'

A student says a parasite was "eating through the cornea" of her eye.

Jessica Greaney said she first searched for medical attention when her eye started to close sporadically.

"It was originally diagnosed as an ulcer," said Greaney. "When I went back a week later I was admitted into hospital because a parasite was eating my eye because my contact lenses had come into contact with water."

"It was eating through the cornea of my eye, which obviously affects your sight," she added. "How they managed to start the treatment was intensive eye-drops every hour for four days and then it slowly decreased," she told 5 live's Afternoon Edition.
